Spring TX House Cleaning - Shower Doors

A tip from Felicia on how to clean and keep shower doors clean:
Spring TX in general has hard water with heavy deposits of calcium and lime which stick to glass and other surfaces if not cleaned up.  We see it most on shower doors, but the truth is that this hard water build up stick to just about everything it comes in contact with.  Leaving a cloudy build up that in time with etch into stone, hard surfaces, and even glass, if not removed on a regular basis.

Located in a warm and moist environment showers, bathtubs and everything that make them up are prone to soap scum and mildew buildup. Shower doors in particular can pose an even bigger challenge than the rest. One will likely notice the gradual buildup on the door’s surface as it will become more and more opaque and not as easy to see through. Additionally, there are grooves and tracts that allow the door to open and close that are not only hard to reach, but buildup mildew and soap scum as well. That being the case, it is important to take all necessary steps to ensure proper cleanliness and reduce any health risk factors. The following portrays the steps best used in the shower door cleaning process.

6 Fundamental Elements to prepare for a successful clean:

1. White vinegar
2. Sponges or soft cloths
3. Water
4. Lemon oil
5. Bucket
6. Toothbrush

In a bucket, mix a 50/50 ratio of warm water and vinegar; add more vinegar for greater buildup. Drop the sponge or rag in the solution and sop up generously. With the solution and sponge (or rag) wipe all surfaces multiple times ensuring that all surface area is covered. Repeat this process 2-3 more times depending on the severity of the buildup. For tougher soap scum residues create more water/vinegar solution and repeat the process to get the best results. One every surface has been covered and you have reached the maximum results rinse thoroughly. For cracks and crevasses around the shower door frame, utilize a toothbrush with the vinegar/water solution and scrub all areas where the rag cannot reach, then rinse. With a soft cloth wipe all surfaces dry.

Should water spots remain there are 2 potential options.

1. For hard water stains wipe the entire surface with a white vinegar dampened cloth or sponge.
2. Using a lemon oil dampened cloth or sponge one can wipe the entire surface and make the glass shine.

Tips for proper shower door cleanliness and maintenance:
•    Dry the door after each use
•    Should mold or mildew issues arise treat immediately with a bleach or vinegar solution
•    Dampened dryer sheets can also be used to clean spots and residue
•    Switch to a body wash instead of a bar soap to minimize soap scup buildup

Though cleaning a shower door can appear outwardly to be a difficult task, there are a number of steps and preventative measures that 1 can take to make this task easier. Just follow the above steps and you will receive the outcomes you desire.
